Release notes

The workshop
keeps growing.

What has shipped, what changed and what still needs work. These notes describe released versions, not features waiting on a branch.

Desktop · 2.2.1 · Upcoming

Better checks.
A smoother path to print.

From a first family project to a multi-material part, this upcoming update improves the checks between your sliced plate and the printer.

Not released yet. Installer verification is still in progress. Downloads below remain on 2.2.0.

Nozzle-aware AMS mappingChecks after wakingConsistent plate validation

Before a job starts

  • Match H2D/X2D filaments to feeders connected to the correct nozzle. Known wrong-side selections are blocked for direct sends and queued jobs, including forced sends.
  • Block known nozzle-diameter mismatches on printers with a single nozzle or fixed dual nozzles, including forced sends and queued jobs. Refresh the checks when reported hardware changes and after waking the printer, before uploading the file.
  • Older files without nozzle metadata and dynamic rack or switcher assignments retain their existing behaviour; these checks cannot confirm their nozzle compatibility.
  • Recheck filament warnings after waking a printer, before uploading the file.
  • Use the same plate settings, filament grouping and calibration preparation for native configuration validation and slicing. Validation keeps existing previews and sliced files intact.
  • Ignore invalid time and filament estimates in imported sliced files, using valid G-code or filament metadata when available. Missing estimates stay unavailable.

Native slicing on all three platforms

The 2.2.1 release is planned to bundle Print Lab Slicer for Linux x64, Windows x64 and macOS Apple silicon (arm64), including toolpath previews and available object estimates. The macOS package requires macOS 14 or newer on Apple silicon. Windows and macOS installers remain unsigned; macOS updates require manual installation.

Printer workflows are tested with the simulator and protocol fixtures. These checks do not establish compatibility with physical printers.

Cloud · phone pairing update

Several computers.
One phone.

Pairing another computer now keeps the phone keys you already saved. The companion chooses the right key for each computer’s encrypted status, queue, camera and signed commands.

  • Existing pairings continue to work. Scan each linked computer’s phone key once, including when opening another link in the same tab.
  • Manage individual saved keys, or remove all keys from this browser. A missing or changed key for one computer does not prevent access to the others.
  • Keep command feedback and notifications separate for each computer, even when printer identifiers match.
  • Fixed a confirmation-dialog issue so dismissing a later command with Escape cannot reuse an earlier approval.

This companion update works with Family Print Lab 2.2.0; no desktop upgrade is needed. To revoke a lost phone, choose Forget all phones on each computer it was paired with.

A bigger workshop,
from model to print.

Print Lab Slicer arrives on Linux, the modelling workspace gains more tools, and printer queues, family workflows and the optional phone companion become more capable.

Print Lab Slicer

  • Linux installers bundle a headless engine built on Bambu Studio’s libslic3r, with a modular upstream patch queue.
  • Fixed unstable time and filament estimates, including the negative prediction and M73 remaining-time overflow.
  • Open and save Bambu 3MF projects, including settings, transforms, painting and attachments. Configuration errors detected by the engine block slicing.
  • Use the engine’s toolpath preview and per-object estimates in the slicing workspace on Linux.
  • Multi-extruder filament grouping includes H2D/X2D automatic mapping. Arrangement reserves space for the wipe tower.

Modelling and preparation

  • Cut, emboss, measure, simplify and boolean tools extend the mesh workspace, with undo and explicit choices for destructive edits.
  • Small paint brushes can split triangles for finer regions.
  • Variable layer height respects multi-extruder limits and adds a colour overlay.
  • Model imports show creator credits on the project and progress in the Activity tray.

Printers and household workflows

  • Multiple printer queues, plate-clearance checks, quiet hours and print history help organise the workshop.
  • Expanded AMS and filament tracking, camera support and offline HMS explanations, with French translations.
  • Printer snapshots expose job and subtask identifiers directly to diagnostics.
  • Longer LAN authentication lockouts and persistent remote-command replay protection strengthen local checks.

Packaging and verification

  • Published installers for Windows x64, macOS Apple silicon and Linux x64, with a native engine in the Linux package. The 2.2.0 Windows and macOS installers use an installed Bambu Studio for slicing; native calibration is unavailable through that fallback.
  • The app suite passed 1,440 tests, with four skips. Three full browser-suite runs each passed 61 tests, with one skip.
  • Native and integration tests passed under AddressSanitizer and UndefinedBehaviorSanitizer. Valgrind reported no errors or definitely/indirectly lost memory.
  • The Linux release build and startup were checked on Ubuntu 22.04. Printer checks used the simulator and fixtures.
Cloud · 0.2.0

A more capable phone companion.

Cloud’s protocol v2 connects the expanded desktop app to your household’s phones, with opt-in sharing and controls.

  • View shared status and queues for multiple printers with a free Cloud account.
  • With the Family plan, use a paired phone key for signed pause, resume, stop and Start next commands. The app at home verifies each command and enforces its local checks.
  • Enable encrypted camera sharing and choose printer alerts and queue notifications.
  • Paired phone keys seal status and queue details; the relay still handles routing metadata. Without a key, opted-in status and queue data can be plain text.
  • Optional encrypted backups, print-request approvals and template packs remain part of the Family plan.

Native slicing included

2.2.0 bundles Print Lab Slicer. The release was built and smoke-tested on Ubuntu 22.04.

Windows · x64

Bring Bambu Studio

The desktop app is available. Slicing in 2.2.0 uses an installed copy of Bambu Studio.

macOS · Apple silicon

  • Unsigned installers: Windows and macOS packages are not code-signed. Install macOS updates manually while signing is unavailable.
  • Physical printers: no real-printer verification was performed for this release. Simulator tests do not establish hardware compatibility.
  • Advanced modelling: multi-part assembly operations and fully editable vector text still have limits.
  • Estimates: some single-instance or calibration breakdowns cannot be attributed to objects and remain unavailable.
  • Printer storage and firmware: some storage delete/reprint workflows remain deferred. Firmware flashing is not provided.
